Pickling and oiling are basic steelmaking techniques for removing oxides and/or mill scale from the surface of a hot mill strip and adding a rust inhibitor. At Big River Steel, that is where the basics end. With hot rolled pickled & oiled sizes ranging from .054 – .160 thickness and 36” – 74” width, our advancements in hot mill technology produce grades and chemistries below the surface that are equally as attractive. In fact, Big River’s hot mill can achieve steel grades previously only available from integrated mills.
Those superior grades are processed through our continuous pickle line, one of the most advanced in the industry, providing maximum flexibility and control.
