Yesterday, U. S. Steel announced its intention to acquire the remaining equity of Big River Steel that it did not already own. We are proud that in just a few short years, the Big River Steel team’s entrepreneurial mindset and can-do attitude attracted the initial partnership with U. S. Steel that led to yesterday’s announcement.
Big River Steel is excited about the opportunities that we believe will allow us to leverage the “Best of Both” steelmaking models. Our goal is to expand our capabilities to provide you with the high-quality, environmentally sustainable steels you have become accustomed to relying on us to produce.
As we have already proven via our currently in place joint venture efforts with U. S. Steel, together we are capable of making cutting edge-products, such as U. S. Steel’s proprietary XG3™ advanced high-strength steel, in a sustainable manner that others cannot match. As the only LEED-certified steel production facility, Big River Steel’s commitment to the environment started from the moment we envisioned our Osceola facility and will continue as we move into this next phase of our company.
Equally important, our commitment to you will also be strengthened. We will continue to push the boundaries of steelmaking so you can continue developing the products you and your customers are demanding. Working closely with you, we both will continue to Go Big!
U. S. Steel hopes to complete this transaction in early 2021, subject to customary closing conditions. Throughout that process, U. S. Steel and Big River Steel will continue to operate as separate companies so please continue to interact with both organizations separately, as you do today. Our commitment to you is business as usual, including honoring all our customer commitments. Big River Steel’s goal is to serve you without disruption.
